Counselling Ashford Kent
Counselling is an umbrella term for talking therapies; in which you are provided with a safe and supportive environment in order to explore any problems you are experiencing. The aim of counselling is to help you explore the cause or your emotional pain or the feeling of being 'stuck' and unable to move on with your life. No problem is too big or too small.

You might find it difficult or embarrassing talking to friends or family about your problem but by talking to a trained professional you will be able to you look at your problems from a different, un-biased and balanced perspective. Counselling can provide a safe and regular space for you to talk and explore difficult feelings. The counsellor is there to support you and respect your views.

They won't usually give advice, but will help you find your own insights into and understanding of your problems and strategies for moving forward. It can be a great relief to share your worries and fears with someone who acknowledges your feelings and is able to help you reach a positive solution.

Many people find the idea coming to therapy or Counselling or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) daunting.
Not only might they be opening themselves up for the very first time, they'll also be opening up to a complete stranger.
Many people express concerns such as "what will they think of me?" or "will they judge me or think I'm weak?"
However, our therapists understand that the pain or upset a person may feel is, more often than not, due to an unfortunate set of life experiences and is certainly no 'fault' of anyone for which they might be 'judged'.
Research has shown time and time again, that the single most powerful factor in therapy is the strength of relationship between the client and the therapist.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (or CBT as its commonly known) is a form of psychotherapy which combines cognitive therapy and behaviour therapies, emphasising the importance of 'how we think effects how we feel and what we do'.
In simple terms, cognitive behavioural therapy addresses negative patterns and distortions in the way we look at the world and ourselves.
Cognitive therapy - examines how negative thoughts or cognitions contribute to a negative emotion.
Behavioural therapy - examines how you react to and behave in situations that trigger a negative emotion.

Anxiety is about threat and danger (either real or imagined), where the fear that you feel is out of proportion to the actual threat itself.
We have all experienced a situation that evoked feelings of anxiety or panic because anxiety is a natural biological human response to a threatening situation.
However, when anxiety is constant or overwhelming and it interferes with your daily life, it stops being functional; that's when you've crossed the line from normal, productive anxiety into the territory of anxiety disorders.
