Choosing Change Counselling & Coaching
Choosing Change offers professional counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Life Coaching and Addiction Therapy. All bespoke services promote and facilitate recovery, psychological wellbeing and personal development for people in Bournemouth and across East Dorset and beyond. Hello, my name is Maria and I am a an experienced counsellor, CBT therapist and Addiction therapist.

I am also a qualified Life Coach. I deeply believe in the human capacity for change and personal growth. My private practice 'Choosing Change', was set up to offer a warm and empathic therapeutic service to support people through the process of change. For you that may mean a new direction, challenging unhelpful thinking and behaviour patterns and creating new coping strategies.

Perhaps you would like to gain insight into understanding yourself, others or your life circumstances in a different way. Whatever brings you to talking therapies or coaching, my hope is that the remainder of this website will help you see how we might work together to achieve your desired outcome.
Services
I have worked within primary care for the NHS, community counselling settings, the voluntary sector, community addictions treatment agency and residential rehabilitation settings.
I have worked with clients with general anxiety, social anxiety, health anxiety, binge eating, depression, stress management, addictions including gaming and internet, OCD, phobias, gambling, exam stress, life changes, bereavement and loss, relationship and self-acceptance issues.
I also have experience in delivering self-esteem, confidence and assertiveness coaching as well as anger management coaching.
If you are experiencing a difficult or challenging time in your personal or work life it can help to talk to a professional counsellor.
I am on the Accredited register of the British Association for Counsellor and Psychotherapists (BACP).
I am fully insured and DBS checked.
I offer therapeutic counselling within a supportive, compassionate and empathic relationship.
I work from an integrative approach which means that I believe there are many ways of exploring and understanding human functioning and that no single approach will help all clients in all situations.
Cognitive behavioural therapy is focused more on the here and now and your current difficulties rather than concentrating on what has happened to you in the past.
It can help you change what you think (your cognitions) and what you do (your behaviours).
CBT can be helpful with many types of common mental health problems such as general anxiety, health anxiety or social anxiety.
It is also very effective for OCD and panic attacks, low mood and depression and low self esteem and anger management amongst others.
I offer supervision (individual and group) to both qualified practicing counsellors and trainees who are seeking support in their work and a space where they can reflect on their practise.
My orientation is integrative.
My endeavour is to provide practitioners with an enquiring, supportive and compassionate environment that facilitates ethical profession practice and professional development.
I see supervision as a collaborative and creative process that requires a welcoming, safe, and reflective space in which to hold your practice.
Life coaching is a life changing process and a journey to be enjoyed.
My remit is to facilitate you into making positive changes that will help you to flourish and be the best you can be.
Life is not easy and doesn't necessarily go smoothly or as we thought it would.
We can feel stuck, aimless knowing that we are not fulfilled but not knowing which direction to go in.
As a fellow human being I have been there myself.
Achieve a balance between 'Being' and 'Doing' that will help you get where you want to without losing yourself in the process.
