You can book for an initial consultation by yourself online. Alternatively, you may contact us by telephone, SMS, or email to set up the first meeting. It can be booked for the next day if we have an available therapist. The Koan Practice is a central London group of qualified psychotherapists. The team is currently made up of twelve qualified therapists, catering to a broad range of client needs.

All of our therapists are fully qualified and accredited by major accreditation bodies in the UK. We have been providing successful psychotherapy. We have a reputation for providing positive and long lasting outcomes, for a diverse spectrum of clients. Our therapists are committed to the individual. This means that your psychotherapist is able to offer to see you without having limits on the amount of counselling work that you can do or how often & how long you meet with your therapist.

This is what makes therapy with us different from other funded services. In a climate that increasingly promotes brief interventions, our therapists wanted to deal with the question 'What happens after brief intervention?'
Services
The Koan Practice is a central London group of qualified and qualifying psychotherapists.
The team is currently made up of twelve senior and over ten junior therapists, catering to a broad range of client needs.
All of our senior therapists are fully qualified and accredited by major accreditation bodies in the UK.
All of our junior therapists are working towards their professional accreditation.
We have been providing successful psychotherapy and counselling for twenty years (previously known as LACAP), and have a reputation for providing positive and long lasting outcomes, for a diverse spectrum of clients.
For a long while those of us who were working as counsellors or psychotherapists in the NHS and charitable agencies realised something had gone wrong.
Now everybody knows, except Jeremy Hunt!
The auditors and accountants had won, and the space for proper clinical counselling, psychotherapy and psychoanalytic work was being constricted.
Everything is now audited - including 'happiness' and "growth".
Auditors and accountants wanted to see if counselling & psychotherapy treatments in London were delivering 'value for money'.
In many ways, we readily admit that words change emotions.
A Hollywood movie can leave the audience in tears, or a politician's speech can inflame a crowd to the madness of genocide.
A man can say 'I love you' and the woman can realise that he is the one.
But we have to be careful.
While we cherish the third, we know that the tears at a movie are a little fake, and that the politician's words can be a danger.
So then, it seems that if words are to be used to change human suffering the kind of language employed needs to be considered.
There are hundreds of psychotherapy models and schools of thought.
In fact, there are over a thousand different named psychotherapies including minor variations.
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy - the general term for types of talking therapywhere underlying problems are identified, explored and addressed over time.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)- the type of therapy generally offered by the NHS which focuses on removing the symptoms of the immediate problem using a time-limited process.
So, why does Koan provide Psychodynamic Psychotherapy rather than CBT?
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) exists to promote and maintain the profession of psychotherapy and the highest standards in the practice of psychotherapy.
UKCP has the greatest majority of the reputable psychotherapy organisations in the United Kingdom as its members.
The majority of our therapists belong to the Psychodynamic section of UKCP but may be Members of British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), British Psychological Society (BPS) and other organisations.
Our therapists adhere to the Codes of Ethics and Practice of their own organisation, which are consistent with those of UKCP, BACP or BPS.
