Dean Richardson Couples & Personal Counselling
From Portsmouth to Petersfield, Southampton to Chichester, heck anywhere UK-based who's comfortable with video & English audio. Dean is the local established, experienced therapist of over 14 years video counselling experience. Who would you choose: a counsellor who ran to video when their practice was closed down during lockdown (maybe even took a brief training course), or someone who has been practising counselling on video since 2007?

Makes you think. Dean Richardson has been here practicing tele-counselling using Skype and Zoom video since 2007. Yup, that's 14 years more experience than counsellors who hurried to add an online therapy option when the British regional-lockdowns began. During these isolating times this is good to know who has over a decade of combined experience with both Skype/Zoom AND Counselling in the Portsmouth area.

Whilst transitioning this website to a new server we accidentally broke the original design - beyond repair. Rather than spend weeks trying to fix it, we've decided it's time for a refresh.

Think of your last really good conversation.
Perhaps you felt listened to and were able to get some really important stuff off your chest.
You felt better afterwards, maybe your conversation-partner helped by listening well, being engaged with what you had to say and not just waiting for his/her turn to speak.
Maybe you learned some stuff about yourself that you didn't realise.
Now, can think of a subject that you can't talk to anyone about.
Maybe you want to talk about your thoughts of ending your life.
What if a single idea, offered by someone you learned to trust, could help to transform your life?
Individual counselling with Dean Richardson MNCS(Accredited Registrant) in Portsmouth is non-religious, therapeutic process for a single person wishing to deal with stuff that's getting in the way of a better life.
Anything from anxiety, depression, phobias, confidence, work issues, relationship problems and many more issues are candidates for counselling.
Counselling is a partnership that can help you identify, address and then work through problems, supporting you in putting problems to rest; and all without going through the process alone.
Dean Richardson offers a form of counselling for individuals called brief/focal short-term psychodynamic counselling.
This counselling is a fixed number of sessions and is available for individuals only (click for couples counselling).
This brief approach to counselling can be beneficial to some clients with certain criteria (explained below).
It is important to understand that a time-limited/brief approach to counselling is not suitable for everyone and the assessment (at the start of counselling) will be helpful in deciding if brief counselling is in the client's best interests.
It's an important rule that every ethical and professional counsellor performs an assessment with their client before individual counselling commences (see also: Counselling for Individuals).
An assessment for counselling is where a client and counsellor both work together in order to decide if continuing for further counselling sessions together is a good idea.
As the counsellor: does the client appear to be able to work with your therapeutic approaches & methods?.
If counselling seems inappropriate, can the counsellor and client discuss a referral to a colleague or other therapy agency?.
