Counselling provides a safe environment where you can talk freely about issues that are troubling you.
Counselling helps you to deal with your problems and aids your personal development.
It creates a sense of self-healing.
It usually takes place on a one to one basis between you and the counsellor where you are listened to by a skilled and caring professional in a non-judgmental setting.
It's not about telling you what to do nor is there an expectation to change you as a person.
Counselling will enable you to explore any emotions you might be feeling or problems which are getting in the way of your daily life or something longer term that has been avoided for whatever reason.
The minimum amount of clinical supervision required by BACP needed is 1.5 hours per month depending on experience.
Supervision is important for discussing casework and other professional issues in a structured way.
The purpose is to assist the practitioner in learning from his or her experiences and to progress in expertise.
This benefits the service user / client and ensures good and effective service, helping you to evolve your practice.
There will need to be an agreement about the boundaries of confidentiality regarding the clients to whom you are accountable.
Only you can decide whether you wish to try counselling.
Just talking to someone confidentially who is not a friend or family member can make all the difference.
Counselling provides a regular time for those in distress to explore their feelings and talk about their problems.
Counselling can help you develop better ways of coping, allowing you to live the life you deserve.
There are no hard and fast rules.
If something is troubling you it can be worth spending some time thinking about why this may be happening.
Researchers have dismissed the notion that frequent internet usage - in particular the use of social media - contributes to higher levels of stress.
A study by the Pew Research Center revealed that in general, regular web and social media users do not have especially high stress levels.
However, scientists did find there can be occasions when the social use of digital technology makes people more aware of stressful events in other people's lives.
This can in turn boost their own stress levels, they found.
