My name is Mary Dees and I believe you deserve to be happy and fulfilled in your life and that you have the ability to make that happen. Life can be challenging and difficult and I am trained to help you through your troubles and to support you to make changes in your life. I would love to support you in making sense of your life and helping you find your inner resources and enhance your life.
I believe that we all have a basic need for help and support. I am an independent, non-judgmental professional, who has been trained to support you and help you find the internal resources to resolve your problems. I believe that we are not broken we are all just looking for ways to grow. We are all born with the ability to give and receive love. As we make our way in the world we decide the best ways to survive and cope with our circumstances.
Some of these ways may help us grow and reach our potential and some may hold us back. Some of the coping mechanisms we learnt as children were great strategies for survival but now they limit us.

My therapy approach is based on the belief that everyone can learn and change and that we are all responsible for own behaviour, thoughts and feelings.
I will work with you to find out what you want from counselling and therapy and this will form our goals and working contract.
One of the ways I work is through our relationship with each other.
It is through our relationships with others and indeed with ourselves that we create our experiences of life.
So I will use our relationship as a source of information and give us both the chance to reflect on what is happening between us.

Anxiety can be distressing, highly damaging and disabling.
It can prevent you from achieving your potential in many areas of life - work, family and friends.
If you have anxiety be aware that it affects 1 in 20 adults and is the most common form of mental issue in the UK.
The causes are many and unique to each person - whether it be childhood issues, traumatic experiences, or years of poor health.
Anxiety can be a coping mechanism you have developed to help you survive in a difficult world and then become a vicious cycle where you feel anxious about the fact you are feeling anxious.
