I am a highly experienced and qualified therapist for individuals and couples who offers a safe and caring place for you to explore any difficulties or troubles you might want to bring. If, like some of my clients, you feel that your head is 'all messed up like a tangled ball of string', together we can start to unravel the strands and make sense of things.
We do this by exploring, understanding and then deciding together what, if anything, you want to do about it and what is the most beneficial outcome for you. I work in partnership with you to offer insights from my experience and training and make links to help with the understanding of your difficulties. As well as my extensive Relate training I have attended a lot of workshops and courses over the 30 years I have been a counsellor.
I can offer strategies and techniques to help with the symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression and I always bear in mind that the mind and body are one organism and that the body often tells us when the mind needs help.

Services
There are times in our lives when we feel 'stuck' and need to talk about a problem or difficult decision with someone other than family or friends.
It can be a great relief to express the thoughts that we wouldn't dream of saying to friends or family, perhaps for fear of upsetting or worrying them.
I can provide a safe, quiet, confidential space to explore your difficulties, distress or lack of direction and I will not judge you or tell you what to do.
I can often reassure you that what you are feeling is 'normal.'

There are no simple answers, but often there are rows about apparently trivial things which quickly intensify and become nasty and upsetting.
Sometimes the relationship feels stale, 'we've got into a rut' and the couple end up leading separate lives.
Often there are issues such as an affair, jealousy, debt, sex, parenting, in-laws, where the couple cannot understand each other's point of view.
If you feel you are going round in circles, or are afraid to talk about a certain issue in case it makes things worse, or have nothing left to say to each other, then it might be the right time to try counselling.

I currently offer counselling for individuals via Zoom, WhatsApp and telephone and couples via Zoom.
We have now become more accustomed and at ease with different ways of living and working and that sometimes there can be benefits to doing things online and/or at home.
Firstly there is no need to travel which saves you time and money.
It also means that we don't have to cancel because of bad weather or a car which refuses to start.
Secondly if your home is your sanctuary you can talk to me where you feel most comfortable and afterwards you can process the session and any emotional responses in your safe place.

In my work at Relate I often counselled couples where one partner, or sometimes both, either discovered during their sessions that they were on the Autistic Spectrum or 'identified' as neurodivergent before they came.
I then tailored the counselling to give both partners effective help and support.
I became interested in counselling people on the autistic spectrum through Relate training by Maxine Aston, the renowned author and health psychologist.
In recent years I have taken part in further training with Aspire Autism Consultancy.

I am married with grown up children and live in Leeds.
I enjoy walking my dog in the local parks and countryside and making my garden a haven for wildlife.
Like many people I find Nature lifts my spirits.
I have always enjoyed working with people.
My first career involved helping people to find employment.
I volunteered at The Citizen's Advice Bureau whilst on a career break to bring up my family.
I enjoyed the CAB work but found it frustrating to only see clients on a 'one-off' basis.
Through helping them with their practical problems, I realised that many clients had emotional issues affecting their lives, which I wasn't able to explore with them.
