We are a charity based in Worthing, West Sussex, that offers counselling to women and their partners who find themselves unexpectedly pregnant, who have experienced a pregnancy loss, such as miscarriage or stillbirth, or have experienced abortion. We recognise that deep feelings can accompany these events, and we offer space and time to explore and process them.
Acorn's vision is "For the Worthing area to be a place where no one has to experience pregnancy loss or unintended pregnancy unsupported, and where all young people are able to learn the story of pregnancy."

Services
Acorn provides specialist counselling to those suffering from the emotional and physical trauma that can be associated with an unplanned pregnancy or pregnancy loss.
The charity also runs very well-received sessions in schools.
In lock-down there has been a sharp increase in unwanted pregnancies, and those suffering from early pregnancy loss have spoken of the particular isolation they have experienced due to the restrictions on social contact.
Our counselling is freely available and anyone wishing to access our services can contact us.

At Acorn you'll talk confidentially and privately with one of our counselling volunteers.
They will listen to you, offer you time and space to think, and will help you work through to a considered decision or a step closer to making one.
Our services are free of charge.
Contact us, call 01903 823893, or email office@acornworthing.org.uk to make an appointment.

The loss of a child at any stage of pregnancy, through miscarriage, still birth or failed IVF can be devastating.
Others around you may not fully recognise your loss.
There is often no evidence that the baby existed and feelings of sadness, anger, guilt and shame can make it difficult for you to talk about what has happened.
Sometimes people expect you to 'get over it' or push it out of your thoughts to avoid the unpleasant emotions that have been stirred up.
Our trained counselling volunteers are here to help you through your bereavement journey with one-to-one support.

Teams now visit most of the secondary schools in Worthing and also travel further afield to Angmering, Littlehampton, Shoreham and Steyning to present information to young people.
We offer our services free of charge, but welcome donations from the schools.
We give presentations to students in Year 10 (aged 14 and 15).
We explain about Acorn's work, and use film clips, discussion and interactive exercises, so that students can begin to consider issues around relationships and unexpected pregnancy.
