Taking that first step to therapy can feel daunting, but talking to someone who isn't involved with your everyday life can help you untangle your thoughts and feelings and find much-needed space to reflect and make changes in your life. Are destructive behaviours preventing you from living the life you deserve, such as compulsive lying or eating, or addiction to gambling, alcohol, drugs, pornography or sex?
If the answer to any of the questions above is yes, then you could benefit from counselling. An increasingly popular option for clients who can't make face-to-face Counselling or Hypnotherapy sessions with us in person, is to use either Skype/Facetime/Zoom or Whatsapp Video. These free platforms enable you to video chat in real time over the internet with one of our Counsellors or Hypnotherapists.
The benefit of online sessions is that you can physically see your Counsellor/Hypnotherapist as well as hear them. As with other digital methods, online sessions allow you to attend a session from the comfort of your own location anywhere in the world.

The Fareham Counselling Centre was founded by therapists Sue Peckham and James Holmes to meet the range of needs that went outside what they and their team of experienced therapists could treat at the hugely successful Hampshire Hypnotherapy Centre Ltd (Founded in 2004).
It was their aim to add a team of highly skilled Counsellors to their already experienced team of committed practitioners, therefore, expanding the range of treatments that they could offer to alleviate emotional difficulties and promote good psychological health in the Fareham and Southampton communities.

Anxiety disorders can develop when we are uneasy or fearful about something that might happen about a future event, situation, or circumstance.
There can be a variety of triggers, from a bereavement, to the loss of a job, to sometimes a trauma, or even drug usage.
Anxiety can turn into a disorder, when that worry becomes more pronounced and interferes with your normal day to day life.
Many people experience periods of abnormal anxiety from time to time.
Anxiety disorders are evidenced by acute or chronic, reoccurring or persistent physiological, psychological, and emotional symptoms.

Death and loss are an inevitable part of life, however, when we experience bereavement, in the form of the loss of someone close to us, we can become overwhelmed with grief, experiencing shock, numbness, sadness, and often anger.
These are all normal responses of the grieving process.
However, if left unprocessed, such losses can leave us with emotional scars and long-term difficulties.
If you have experienced the death of someone who was very important to you, you may find it difficult to adjust to the massive changes that will be happening in your life right now.

Just like adults, children also face various challenges in their lives from time to time.
Perhaps it's a new school or a house move, or perhaps a relationship breakdown or separation.
If they are having persistent trouble with mood or behaviour, then a child Counsellor at the Fareham Counselling Centre or one of our team of Hypnotherapists specialising in helping children is a good person to talk to and work through the problem with.
Counselling can give the child the freedom to talk openly about how they are feeling without the fear of judgement.

From time to time, we can all feel sad, miserable and not enjoy our lives to the full.
While these are understandable reactions to upsetting or stressful events and experiences in our lives, it is also quite normal to experience them in our busy day to day lives, often without any obvious reason.
When these symptoms persist, they can often be signs of depression.
Depression affects one in six of us, with common symptoms that can include: difficulties in concentration, lack of motivation, negative thinking, pessimism, sleep disturbances, irritability, crying, social withdrawal, changes in appetite, loss of sex drive and lack of enthusiasm and enjoyment in life, as well as intrusive suicidal thoughts on occasions.
