Welcome to Waterside Counselling, a voluntary practice set up specifically to offer affordable counselling and psychotherapy services. From our offices in Paisley, we offer our services to residents across the Renfrewshire area and beyond. We are based in Mill House on Gordon Street in Paisley (just before McLaughlan's the Glaziers).
We offer a professional and accessible counselling service to individuals, couples, families and children over the age of 12, who might be struggling with difficulties in their everyday lives. Our service is available to anyone regardless of ability to pay, with clients only contributing what they can afford. All our counsellors are volunteers and give their time freely to allow the service to be run on a low cost basis.
They all hold relevant professional qualifications or are in training on approved courses and share a commitment to the code of ethics governing their practice. Unfortunately, we only see people by appointment, so please contact us via our details below in the first instance.

Services
Waterside Counselling is a local voluntary agency, established in 2015 by Karen Millar.
Karen worked for many years as a respected senior counsellor in private practice, a counselling practice manager and as a volunteer in charities and voluntary agencies in the Renfrewshire area and beyond.
In the current economic climate we recognise that not everyone can afford to access private counselling, which is around 40 per session.
Unfortunately there is usually a very long wait to access counselling through the NHS and it is often limited to a small number of sessions.

It can sometimes be helpful to talk through a problem with a professional counsellor in a confidential and safe environment and Waterside Counselling offers such a space.
Counselling can help with many areas in life, for example - addictions; bereavement; bullying; work, career or money worries; depression; families and relationships; fertility issues; pre and post-natal depression or stress to name a few.
Most of us will go through a difficult time at some point in our lives, sometimes as a result of past traumas or sometimes in relation to current circumstances or problems.

You can contact Waterside Counselling by phoning us directly or e-mailing us if that is more convenient, there is no need to be referred to us through a GP or other support agency.
We understand just how difficult it can be to make that initial contact, so be assured that our staff are skilled in making the process as painless as possible for you to attend counselling.
We would hope to see you for an initial appointment within a week or so of your first contacting us.
This initial appointment (which last for some 30 minutes or so) allows the Counselling Practice Manager (a senior counselling practitioner) to meet with you and get some background to your problems and to answer any questions or concerns you may have about the counselling process.
