We offer both Counselling and Psychotherapy depending on your presentation and needs, however, all clients must be able to engage in therapy. Where an individual is considered to be severely mentally unwell or highly distressed, immediate therapy may not be possible. AWC Counselling can support and advise people on how to become ready for therapy.
Confidentiality means that we do not share information with other agencies. The only exceptions to this are where specific laws are being broken e.g. Aire Wharfe & Craven Counselling Service has a Clinical Manager who governs all work with clients. Each therapist has both a clinical supervisor outside of our organisation and a Clinical Manager internally, to ensure that work is professionally delivered in ways that promote client well-being and recovery.
There are appropriate policies, procedures and expertise internally and if not, externally to maintain standards for the service so that funders and professional bodies have confidence in the provision.

Services
At AWC, we offer both Counselling and Psychotherapy.
The treatment you receive depends on your presentation and needs.
The differences between these therapies can be discussed with you at your clinical assessment.
Everyone is offered a clinical assessment because we need to be sure that clients can engage in therapy and that it will be beneficial.
It cannot be assumed that our therapies will be appropriate for the client.
Where an individual is mentally very unwell or highly distressed, therapy may not be immediately possible.

The organisation is staffed by a team of 2 staff: a full-time Service Manager responsible for delivering the organisation's vision housed in its business plan, supported by a part-time Administrator.
All counselling is delivered by self-employed, freelance practitioners who join our counsellor bank after meeting strict quality criteria.
They work under a contract that specifies the service standards required and are accountable to the Service Manager who continuously monitors their work.
To create a triangle of accountability and support these trustees don't hold the Chair or Treasurer roles.

AWC Counselling has a bank of freelance, independent counsellors who have all been recruited to enable us to offer our clients a range of therapies and skills to meet an increasingly diverse number of needs.
All of our counsellors are quality assured.
Prior to working with AWC Counselling, every counsellor is required to provide evidence that they hold an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring certificate, appropriate Professional Indemnity Insurance and membership of a professional body.
Each of the 4 male and 7 female counsellors are qualified to professional diploma level with some also holding masters degree qualifications in counselling and psychotherapy.

Counselling and psychotherapy are talking therapies that are intended to help people become emotionally, psychologically and mentally well.
They are offered in ways that help people to talk, by carefully developing a 'safe' relationship.
Ingredients like mutual respect and confidentiality form part of an agreed contract.
It is accepted that everyone needs to feel listened to and not judged.
Any issues raised are not viewed as too small or too big so that whatever a person needs to talk about is considered as important.

Using psychotherapy, our therapists help people of all ages live happier, healthier and more productive lives.
Psychotherapists apply scientifically validated procedures to help people develop healthier, more effective habits.
There are several approaches to psychotherapy including cognitive-behavioural, interpersonal and other kinds of talking therapy that help individuals work through their problems.
Psychotherapy is a collaborative treatment based on the relationship between an individual and the therapist.
