Choosing to seek counselling means that you have reached a point of change and you are looking for the right therapist to support you while you take the time to consider your concerns and find ways in which to go about moving forward. You may be looking to heal from bereavement or be struggling to cope with daily anxiety. You might be worried about the future or be troubled by memories of the past.
You could be having relationship difficulties, or you might just be looking for support while you try to make sense of the way you feel about yourself and your life. Whatever your concerns you are now considering the benefits that professional counselling might bring and you are in the process of finding the right person to talk to.
As an experienced Bristol counsellor I have worked with a diverse range of people who have come to therapy with a host of different types of concerns, from anger management to struggles with depression and more, and I know that whatever your concern is it will be as unique as you are.

Services
As a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy I agree to a code of ethics for good practice and I hold a Professional Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.
I am also listed on the BACP Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists.
I am trained as a generic counsellor, meaning that I am able to work with most issues that people might bring to therapy and I currently offer private practice counselling in central Bristol.
I come from a background in problematic substance use therapy and I have worked as a counsellor for organisations such as Swindon & Wiltshire Alcohol & Drug Service and Turning Point, one of the biggest providers of substance misuse services in the UK today.

Being in therapy is a bit like doing a very big jigsaw puzzle.
The pieces are yours, but although you do not have a clear idea of the picture that the puzzle makes, I believe that you know what it is or what you want it to be.
You certainly know more about this than I do.
What I know is how jigsaw puzzles sometimes fit together and where the pieces are likely to connect.
So what we do here is a cooperative effort, where we look at the pieces and see how they may fit together, except the pieces are your thoughts and feelings about what you hope and fear and desire.

If you feel you would like to have counselling with me then we can arrange for an initial session together.
The first session is usually a relatively informal session that is about getting to know each other and beginning to explore the issues and concerns that have brought you to therapy.
It is also an opportunity to find out more about counselling in general, what it involves and what you can expect from the process.
Towards the end of this session, there will be time for me to tell you a little about me, my experience and my approach and for you to assess whether the type of counselling I offer will be of use to you.
