Julian Cook Counselling & Pyschotherapy
Working from central Bristol, I provide counselling both short and longer-term for a wide range of issues. I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP). Life can be full of difficulties and often we don't really know how we're going to cope - things can seem senseless and random and this leaves us feeling helpless and alone.

As human beings we have tremendous powers of resilience when we can find some meaning in what we're going through. My therapy sessions can help you to find and develop a stronger resilience. As a counsellor I believe that by speaking about difficult things we can gradually make sense of them. Speaking about our issues makes them more bearable and can help to turn our struggles into a source of strength and meaning in our lives.

On our own we can get stuck into reliving negative experiences and feelings but without anything changing. Counselling can make a real difference.
Services
I originally trained as a Teacher of English, and I have a Masters in Linguistics.
I have long experience as a language teacher and educator, in which my interest was always in helping people to find the words to say what they really wanted to and the confidence to say it.
I have lived in Bristol since 1994, and worked for 14 years for the University of Bristol before I started working full-time as a counsellor.
What this means for me is that when we have experienced difficult, painful or traumatic events in the past, we very commonly find ourselves repeating them, often without noticing that this is a repeating pattern.
Sometimes we are overwhelmed with painful feelings without really knowing what they are or where they come from.
Sometimes our relationships with others become difficult but it's hard to see what's gone wrong.
On our own we can get stuck into reliving these experiences and feelings but without anything changing.
Talking to someone who is trained and experienced in listening can help to see things from a different point of view and enable things to shift, sometimes very gradually, sometimes quite suddenly.
There is a multi-storey car park just behind the building, as well as limited on-street parking for up to 2 hours.
Normally I will suggest that we meet for an initial consultation during which we will both be able to make an assessment.
We will explore what is bringing you to counselling and think together about how it might help.
This is in a building which is dedicated to counselling and psychotherapy and provides a pleasant, comfortable environment.
Following the initial consultation, if you feel this is something that would be helpful to you then we can arrange an ongoing appointment.
