My name is Tom Godsal and I am a psychotherapist and counsellor (registered with the UKCP) based in Central Cambridge. I offer short or long term therapy to adults on an individual basis. The aim of this website is to provide information on psychotherapy and counselling as well as to give you some insight into how I work. Hopefully it will also give you an idea as to whether I might be of help to you.
People seek psychotherapy and counselling for a wide variety of reasons; perhaps in order to deal with very specific problems, to cope with moments of crisis or to improve relationships. People struggling with difficult feelings such as sadness, anger, depression, anxiety or lack of confidence can also find the process very helpful. Psychotherapy offers an opportunity for you to talk to someone in a confidential, non-judgemental setting, while allowing you time and space to explore whatever you wish.
Often it is through exploration of your thoughts and feelings that you are able to clarify and reflect on your situation and thereby see what choices you have.

Services
My approach to psychotherapy is influenced by my interest in existential philosophy.
I draw from my training in psychodynamics, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), humanistic and existential psychotherapy.
Life can often be confusing, contradictory, and at times extremely difficult.
At any stage one can be faced with feelings of sadness and loneliness.
You may feel lost and uncertain and things may seem meaningless.
Existential psychotherapy endeavours to address these questions whilst taking into account the uniqueness of each individual and his or her specific individual needs.

When you initially make contact, we will arrange a time for an appointment to discuss your situation.
This will give us an opportunity to meet each other before deciding if we would like to work together.
It will also be an opportunity for you to ask me any questions or concerns you may have about starting therapy.
We can also discuss details about future appointments.
Sessions are once a week, on the same day at an agreed time.
For therapy to be most effective it is important that both therapist and clients are equally committed to the work.
