My name is Alexia Smith and I am a qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist based in Devon, South West England. I currently manage three private practices in Exeter, Tiverton and Barnstaple. I am also a resident therapist at NuBeginnings a boutique, weight loss boot camp in Ilfracombe, North Devon. I have been working as a Hypnotherapist since 2006 and passed my Diploma of Psychotherapy and Counselling with the Human Givens Institute in 2014.
I use hypnosis as it is a natural and effective way of making contact with the inner, subconscious mind. This is often where our problems are stored, but this part of the mind is also a tremendous reservoir of potential strength and knowledge. I combine hypnosis with techniques from Psychotherapy, Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Life Coaching and Solution-focused Brief Therapy.
I specialise in helping with phobias, anxiety, depression and addictions. However there are many different problems hypnotherapy and psychotherapy can help with.

The word hypnosis comes from the Greek work for 'sleep, ' and is reported to be one of the oldest healing techniques in the world.
From the sleep temples of Egypt, through the histories of ancient Greece and Rome, forms of hypnosis have often been used.
Hypnosis is a naturally occurring phenomenon and is often referred to as a trance-like state.
We experience this relaxed state many times a day, sometimes just for a fleeting moment as we daydream or for longer if we are engrossed in a good book or film!

Psychotherapy is a type of therapy used to treat emotional, social or mental health problems.
The term 'psychotherapy' covers a wide range of approaches and methods which range from one-to-one talking sessions, to therapies that use techniques such as role-play, art, music or dance.
Psychotherapists work with couples, families or groups whose members share similar problems.
Psychotherapy can be provided for adolescents and children, as well as adults.
The psychotherapy approach I use, is called The Human Givens.

Over the years, I have taken a great deal of satisfaction helping people from all different walks of life overcome their fears, phobias, addictions and for others helping them to lead a more fulfilling life.
I cannot thank you enough for your caring and human approach, your expertise and skill as a therapist in all you have helped me work through.
I have finally taught that 'black dog' how to sit and heel, neither of these would have been possible without your help.
I cried once on the way out when it was a bit bumpy, and not at all on the way back when it was even bumpier.

Procrastination can sometimes seem like a waste of time but it could also be your mind's way of saying you need to take a break.
We can procrastinate to avoid the possibility of failure, to do favourable tasks before less pleasant tasks, and sometimes to lower anxiety.
But as with most things, too much procrastination can be unhealthy.
It can make you less productive and it may also hinder you from achieving your goals.
If you find yourself procrastinating more than taking action, maybe the following tips might help?
