Essex Psychotherapy
Depression is probably one of the most common problems that people come and see me for. The symptoms of depression can range from feeling a little low to being so debilitating that you cannot function on a day to day basis. If someone is so depressed that they cannot function, anti-depressants will help. However, anti-depressants will not address the deep-seated reasons why you are depressed.

When you come off the anti-depressants, the symptoms will often recur if not immediately, then at some time in the future. If someone is severely depressed, I would always suggest that they seek medical support with anti-depressants, if that is what their doctor suggests. However, another way to work with Depression, is through psychotherapy. I would suggest psychotherapy rather than counselling for depression as depression is usually very deep-seated and long-term.

Psychotherapy for depression takes a long time to work but it is effective and permanent. The word depressed is a common everyday word.

Whether you are looking to explore a particular issue in your life right now or need a safe and supportive place to talk about past experience, Counselling and Psychotherapy can give you the support you need when you need it most to help you move forward.
The terms Counselling and Psychotherapy are often used interchangeably.
Although they are similar, Counselling tends to be short-term and often confined to the here and now of relationships, work, etc.
The difficulties we are experiencing now.
Psychotherapy, on the other hand, tends to be longer-term or even open-ended.
Psychotherapy usually deals with long-term, deeply embedded issues which have troubled us for some time.
What often happens is that a client will come because something is hurting them or upsetting them in the present and they realise that this has been going on for years in one form or another by looking at what is happening in our lives now leads us to a deeper look at our life in general.
An initial therapy session would involve a visit to my practice in Brentwood, Essex, where I would take a detailed history (this first session is called The Assessment).
Some of the questions I might ask may seem personal but the more open and honest you are, the more likely benefit there will be for you.
You will be encourage to ask questions, too, so it may be a good idea to think carefully about them, perhaps writing them down so that they be fully dealt with.
If you have any questions prior to making an appointment, I would be happy to discuss them prior to meeting up.
Anxiety, depression and stress are 3 of the most common mental health issues in the UK today.
Together these issues cost the UK millions of pounds in lost income and in treatment.
I believe that anxiety, depression and stress are curable.
Although these are the most commonly experienced mental health problems in the UK today, psychotherapy can treat these very difficult issues.
In my experience, most people come into therapy with some form of depression, anxiety or stress.
There is always an underlining reason, even if you are not aware of it.
