Ty Elis, formerly known as Porthcawl Counselling, is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee.
We were founded in 1996 by Mrs Edwina (Ted) White MBE, a retired social worker, and Dr Richard Jenkins, a local GP.
Although based in Porthcawl, they both recognised the urgent need for talking therapy across Bridgend Borough.
Ty Elis started from very humble beginnings, providing Counselling and Psychotherapy in rooms at local churches.
In more recent times we have rented a number of premises on Victoria Avenue and in 2013 we were able to purchase our current premises through a Welsh Government capital grant.

Ty Elis Counselling plays a vital role in our community helping people in emotional distress, but since our beginnings we have also been a key educator and educational resource for Counselling and Psychotherapy in South Wales.
In order to qualify as a Counsellor you must have 100 hours of supervised practice with clients of Ty Elis.
We provide that, offering what we refer to as "associate Counsellors", the opportunity to come and complete their training with us.
Many of our Counsellors have gone on to gain masters, doctorates and key positions in the private and public sectors.
