Jenny Holmes Counselling Services
I hope you find my website interesting and helpful. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to get in touch, or you have any queries about counselling or my Talking Therapy services. I am based at "The Salisbury Practice" in Salisbury, Wiltshire. To help the NHS and maintain social distancing, I am currently working remotely via Zoom and telephone.

While I always prefer one to one sessions, working remotely has allowed me to be more flexible with my time and offer more availability. As soon as it is safe and practical to do so, I will return to face to face sessions in Salisbury and at my home in Dinton. Counselling is an opportunity to establish a special confidential relationship with an experienced, trained counsellor who will help you to explore the problems or issues that are causing you concern.

It is sometimes far easier to talk to a counsellor than to family and friends about what is troubling you. A counsellor will listen attentively and will not be Judgemental and can often offer a different perspective to those that you are closest to.
Services
I am a senior accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist and Supervisor with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I work to their Code of Ethics.
I am able to offer my clients the experience I have gained from working concurrently in NHS for over 18 years and a private practice for 16 years.
In those years I have continued to offer Counselling, Psychotherapy and Supervision.
I work from a Humanistic approach with a theory base of Transactional Analysis (UKATA) I also use some Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) These tools help clients understand their internal process and in the understanding of the origin of their values and their way of interacting with others they are then able to decide if they wish to make any changes or not.
People come into therapy for many reasons.
The list below/above are some of the identifiable reasons, that can cause us to have deep personal distress.
Personal distress can affect every aspect of our lives.
Some of the ways we cope with this distress is by becoming withdrawn, angry, forgetful, defensive, fidgety, over busy, and even physically unwell.
When this happens it is often someone who cares for us that suggests we see a counsellor or "find someone to talk to" Clients come into therapy often feeling unable to cope or with a fear that they may be "going mad" There are recognised ways of working with these issues to bring about a resolution that enables a client to address their distress and to either make a change to resolve the issue or if that is not possible to find a way forward with their lives.
Some examples from people I have worked with.
The names and details have been changed to protect the identity of the clients, but the events and the way we worked together are genuine.
Ann, a twenty four year old woman had suffered with depression for several years.
She was finding that the times of depression were interfering with her progress at work and also in her relationship.
Initially, it was a relief for her to be listened to and for her to be able to explore her thoughts and feelings.
We then worked to find strategies to help her lift her depression.
If you need to cancel please contact me as soon as possible in order that the time may be offered to someone else.
Cancellations giving less that 48 hours notice may incur a charge.
You are not expected to know what to do.
I will ask you to consider the issues that are causing you concern and together we can explore your thoughts and feelings.
If this is difficult for you we can use other ideas that you may feel more comfortable with.
The term Counselling is sometimes used to refer to all types of talking therapy, but it is also a type of therapy itself.
If I have reason to believe that you may harm yourself or others I may wish to contact your GP.
I would like to do this with your permission, if this permission is not forthcoming, I may still decide to do so.
If I believe that a child is at risk, I am required to make this information available to the appropriate service.
There are some other limits to confidentiality such as the Prevention of Terrorism and Drug Trafficking Acts.
To ensure best clinical practice, I am required to discuss my work with my supervisor when your anonymity will be preserved, and your right to confidentiality and privacy will not be infringed in any way.
