Isle Of Wight Psychotherapy
My name is Louisa Killpack. In my Isle of Wight psychotherapy practice, I offer individuals and couples the opportunity to engage in an in-depth therapeutic consultation. For those who wish to undertake ongoing therapy, I provide short term, medium term and long term psychoanalytic psychotherapy. An initial consultation provides you with an hour and a half meeting in which you can stop and take stock of your emotional life.

I offer a private, confidential and non-judgemental setting in which you can speak freely about whatever is concerning you. You may wish to talk about your feelings, relationships, particular experiences or memories, your thoughts, dilemmas or conflicts, fantasies or dreams which puzzle or interest you; in fact, anything which is important to you.

Together we will explore what might be troubling you, and I will help you make sense of your experiences. The process is one of curiosity, respect, and kindness. Putting your thoughts and feelings into words and talking them through with someone who listens attentively, and wishes to understand you and help you, can be a relief in itself.
Services
Psychoanalytic psychotherapy (also referred to as dynamic psychotherapy) is a talking therapy for the treatment of emotional suffering and distress.
It helps us get to the core of our problems by attending not just to our immediate concerns, but also by attending to the dynamics that underlie and perpetuate our difficulties.
It takes into account the unconscious part of our minds, which can profoundly influence our mental functioning, affecting how we perceive the world, the way we think and feel, and therefore how we behave.
Problems in relationships are one of the most common causes of unhappiness.
If your relationship is in difficulty, if you are unhappy within it, or if you feel your partnership could be more satisfying, then couple therapy may be helpful for you.
You can come for an hour and a half initial consultation with your partner, or on your own.
If you are in a couple, this meeting is designed as a mutual exploration of your relationship in the company of an impartial and experienced psychotherapist.
Whether you are working through a particular conflict or crisis, or just want to address some of the bad habits that are so easy to fall into, a meaningful consultation can address your concerns.
It can be a big step asking for help, and choosing the right therapist for you is an important decision.
You can contact me in confidence, either by telephone or email.
I hope this website will have answered some of your queries about psychotherapy, but you are welcome to ask any further questions you may have.
If you wish, we can arrange to meet.
The initial consultation lasts an hour and a half.
This provides an opportunity for you to meet me, and explore your difficulties with an experienced psychotherapist.
My clinical experience in the field of mental health extends for nearly 40 years.
I started working in the NHS mental health services in 1980, first on the mainland, and then on the Isle of Wight.
My background health profession was as an Occupational Therapist.
I began my first psychotherapy training in psychodrama in 1985.
Following a further rigorous training, I qualified as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist with AGIP (Association for Group and Individual Psychotherapy) in London in 2001.
I have since undertaken further study in couple work at the Tavistock Centre for Couple Relations.
An initial consultation can in itself provide a valuable opportunity for reflection, to gain some new insights into your emotional life, and identify possible areas for future change.
Many people find that a short period of psychotherapy can make a real difference to the way they feel, by gaining new perspectives on an old problem, or resolving a specific issue.
Others find it useful to continue treatment for longer, even for several years.
If problems have developed over many years, it is likely to take time to make changes that are enduring.
