I see people from all walks of life - they could be a parent, a student, a teacher, an actor, or run their own business. In short, people just like you and me. I am a qualified Cognitive Analytical Therapist and Senior Clinical Nurse Specialist (in psychological medicine), who has worked in the NHS and private practice for more than 29 years.
Self compassion also involves offering non-judgemental understanding to one's pain, inadequacies and failures, so that one's experience is seen as part of the larger human experience.Steve has been an amazing support to me when i needed the most. Having just returned to work after having a baby i felt quite a bit of lost and very vulnerable.
With his open, compassionate and supporting approach he has challenged me just the right way to understand better what's causing me feel in a particular way and what i can do about it.And all this is done with great care, attention and a very special sense of humour, that just makes the whole experience very human.

Services
Before working as a full time psychotherapist, I was a senior clinical nurse specialist in psychological medicine, working in hospitals and community mental health.
I have practiced in most areas of psychiatry including adult, adolescents, older adults, forensic and personality disorder services.
I believe that my extensive clinical experience along with my psychotherapy training gives my patients the feeling that they are being treated by someone who really cares about their mental well being.

We all have an internal dialogue.
Sad events in our lives can sometimes make the dialogue in our heads overly self-critical, which may lead us towards sadness, depression, anxiety or negative behaviour.
Psychotherapy helps us to identify our negative thoughts and behaviours, and seek alternative and more helpful ways of relating to ourselves and others.
As a psychotherapist, my approach is based in cognitive analytical therapy or C.A.T.
This involves discussing experiences and events from your life that may influence the ways in which you think and behave.

I have been having therapy with Steve for over two years and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him.

Mental health nurse Steve Taylor's dissatisfaction with therapeutic interventions for his clients led him to consider an alternative solution.
He began training as a therapist in cognitive analytic therapy - which has been described as a more 'humanistic' form of psychotherapy.
I have been working in mental health for around 30 years and, while I recognise the place for pharmaceutical interventions, I've always been far more fascinated by the transformational effects that the more relational aspects of the job can have on people's lives.

It's great news that the government is investing in child and adolescent mental health and the recently published Green Paper is timely.
All of us working in mental health recognise that investing in children may delay or prevent certain mental health difficulties further down the line.
Appointing Designated Senior Leads for mental health in schools certainly is warranted but what is equally important is that teachers do not become replacements for mental health professionals but are equipped to recognises mental health difficulties arising young people and be able to signpost young people and or their parents on where to seek help so that an appropriate intervention can be provided as early as possible.
