By looking for a counsellor or psychotherapist you've already taken the first important step towards living a more fulfilling and happy life. I am a BACP Registered Humanistic Existential counsellor - this means that I put you at the centre of your own therapy. The first session is for getting to know each other and making sure you're comfortable and happy to continue.
I'll outline what to expect from your therapy and explain the ethical framework that I work within and we'll begin to explore what has brought you to counselling. If you're worried about seeking counselling in any way, and can't find the answers on this site, please don't hesitate to contact me - either by phone or email. I'm here to help.
I have an advanced diploma in Humanistic Existential counselling and over 15 years professional experience, in private practice, as a lecturer in counselling, at ParentlinePlus and through the NHS.I am also a registered member of the BACP, The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, practising within their guidelines & ethical framework.

Most of us will experience a time in our lives when we feel stuck, have lost our meaning, question the point and purpose to our existence, struggle with past experiences, find it hard to maintain relationships, struggle with stress or become overwhelmed by life events.
Although I practice Humanistic/Existential counselling, I believe that all approaches to counselling can provide important and helpful therapy for your problems.
Listed below are the common approaches you're likely to encounter and a summary of how they work.

The way I work with my clients is to allow you to dictate the speed at which we work.
I say to my clients it is your time to use as you wish.
I will not 'make' you talk about anything you do not feel ready (or relevant) to address.
For some it can take a while before they trust someone enough to open up about themselves, it is important you feel comfortable and ready.

Here I have listed just a small sample of some self help books which I and my clients have found particularly useful and enjoyable to read.
I wholeheartedly recommend self help books as a wonderful support and encouragement in hard times.
They provided insight and reassurance helping us feel less alone in our troubles and the positive belief that we all have the power to change our lives almost can't fail to inspire!
