I am a counsellor and psychotherapist with over 18 years experience registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I practise counselling and psychotherapy in Yarm, Teesside close to North Yorkshire and County Durham, I also work remotely online. There are times in life when we feel a sense that things aren't right, we feel stuck and perhaps have been struggling with the same issue for a while.
Or it may be that a sudden recent event has unsettled the way life was and things aren't quite the same as before. We often think that we should solve it by ourselves but at times this may prove difficult and frustrating.

Services
I have been a qualified psychotherapist since 2001, gaining a Masters in Integrative Psychotherapy in 2002.
As well as working in private practice since 2001, I've worked in GP surgeries since 2005 and have been the clinical manager for a team of counsellors working in GP surgeries in a local town for 3 years.
I am also a qualified supervisor of counsellors and psychotherapists.
When we first meet my aim will be to explore with you what you want from the sessions and then work out the best way to help you get there.

There isn't a clear distinction between counselling and psychotherapy, generally counselling as thought of as short term and psychotherapy as longer term therapy, exploring and reflecting on long seated issues in order to reduce their impact on the present.
Both counselling and psychotherapy aim at relieving emotional distress and can help you with issues such as stress, work related difficulties, anxiety, depression, bereavement, relationship challenges, adapting to new life stages, trauma, childhood issues and more.

Internal family systems (IFS) therapy which is recognised as an 'Evidence Based Modality' in the US, is one of the fastest growing therapeutic models in the field today worldwide.
The Centre for Self Leadership which is the organisation which offers and co-ordinates IFS training and development describes IFS as a modality which "offers a clear, non-pathologising and empowering method of understanding human problems, as well as an innovative and enriching philosophy of practice that invites both therapist and client to enter into a transformational relationship in which healing can occur".

I have supervised counsellors and psychotherapists for several years.
In my work as a supervisor I work with individual practitioners or with groups.
If you are interested in contacting me for supervision you will experience my use of an integrative, grounded and respectful approach.
Self care, creative ways to understand and set boundaries and reflecting on your practice and CPD can be part of what we focus on too.
My supervisees regularly share that as a result of our sessions they experience much learning and affirmation of their skills as well as gentle but effective challenging and as a result they empowered to move forwards with their work.
