Neil McLaren
I am an experienced Counsellor (Couples and Individuals) Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Practitioner, and Psychological Life Coach. A fully Registered and Accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and a member of the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies. I offer face-to-face, Skype or telephone counselling.

My initial Counselling training was at the Metanoia Institute in London, where I was awarded a Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling. I always suggest an introductory session where we can explore together what it is you would like help with. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy core belief is that emotional distress is caused by the way we think, and changing our thoughts reduces worry.

Most relationships will get strained at some time, resulting in their not functioning optimally and producing self-reinforcing, maladaptive patterns. As your life coach I will offer a supportive environment in which you can explore what you want in life and how you might achieve your aspirations.

As a fully accredited member of the BACP, I have to annually assure the organisation that my training, current practice and continued professional and person development meets the required standard.
There are often times in people's lives when they feel unable to cope.
At some point, most people will feel depressed and anxious, alone and challenged by life's circumstances.
We desperately try to cope, sometimes not really understanding what is happening.
For some, memories of the past, painful events in the present and worries about the future may mean they cannot enjoy life or achieve their aims.
Counselling provides an opportunity to share problems with someone who is trained and skilled in listening; a sanctuary to enable you to explore your anxieties and feelings.
I always suggest an introductory session where we can explore together what it is you would like help with.
We can then decide how to move forward and what sort of therapy would suit you best.
Some clients/couples come to work with me on a particular issue for a few sessions, others want to come for more in depth counselling and it varies, depending on your needs.
Most people have counselling until they feel they have resolved something satisfactory within themselves.
CBT is a short to medium term therapy that focuses attention on the present rather than the past.
CBT's core belief is that emotional distress is caused by the way we think, and changing our thoughts reduces worry and emotional anxiety.
This way of working will have a definite structure, it will be problem-focused, goal oriented and practical.
As your therapist I will educate you through guided discovery to be your own therapist in the future.
CBT is proven to be an effective treatment for Anxiety and Depression and an effective way to work on relationship issues in Couple Counselling.
Most relationships will get strained at some time, resulting in their not functioning optimally and producing self-reinforcing, maladaptive patterns.
There are many possible reasons for this, including depression, anxiety, anger, infidelity, sex, jealousy and arguments.
If issues are left to continue without resolution the result can be general breakdown of problem solving, which in turn begins to gnaw away at the quality of the relationship.
This can be a very distressing time, as our closest relationships can provide us with the greatest happiness, security and satisfaction.
