Every human has four endowments: - self-awareness, conscience, independent will and creative imagination. These give us the ultimate human freedom. I am a counsellor in Gillingham Dorset, situated near the borders of Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire and I offer both general counselling services for individuals, Trauma treatment using EMDR, relationship counselling, couples counselling and Life Coaching support as well as Wilderness Therapy and Nature-based Therapy.
My style of working is fully adaptable to the field of Life, Business and Executive Coaching and compatible with the coaching qualification that I hold. The very essence of life is change but we often struggle to cope with and adapt to it, particularly when changes are unwelcome and forced upon us, such as the loss of a relationship, a loved one or our health.
Many individuals also develop a gradual sense of something about themselves or their world not being right, as if they just don't fit in. This can become increasingly disempowering as we lose direction in life or start to wonder just who's path we have actually been following.

I operate from Gillingham, North Dorset but have clients throughout Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire.
I uphold the BACP's Values and Ethical Framework for good practice and am accountable to them.

My core counselling qualification is as a Humanistic, Integrative Practitioner which means that whilst I help individuals to understand, process and contextualise their difficulties, my overriding aim is to help them to recognise their strengths and choices, focussing on their development and growth as human beings.

I consciously encouraged change in my life when I increasingly sensed that my long standing career in banking was not supporting my emerging need to live in close harmony with my own values.
I realised that the banking environment that I had entered, as a teenager, had not evolved healthily and so I sought a meaningful vocation where I could engage with people in a way that might truly make a positive difference to their lives, enabling them to live in more authentic ways.
Through my skills and qualities as both a counsellor and coach, along with my commercial background, many clients have valued my ability to connect with them in a way that bridges the often wide divide between the world of commercial reality and the needs of the individual for meaning, understanding and support.

Geoff's understanding, perception and patience enabled me to finally make sense of myself and come to terms with my history.
He guided me through the darkness and helped me find peace in the midst of the chaos that was my life.
When we are confronted with unwelcome and unexpected sometimes life changing experience or difficulties that may feel overwhelming.
When we regularly ask ourselves the question, "Why does this always happen to me?" or "Why do I always end up feeling bad, like this?".
Alternatively, no matter how much we try, we may have always had some underlying sense of not fitting in, not belonging or not being good enough - a sense which sabotages our well-being and hopes for a happy life.

As a qualified Couples and Relationship Counsellor, I work with the concept that the 'Relationship' between two people forms an existence and integrity of its own which is quite apart from the expectations, aspirations and fears of the individual.
It is important to understand that the needs of the 'Relationship' change over time, as does those of the individuals in the relationship.
I have never met a client whose intention was for a meaningful relationship to be wasted.
The general reality is that the intense pressures of modern day living can cause any of us to lose sight of that which we most treasure, namely our personal relationships.

I reserve a small number of opportunities for discounted fees, where circumstances might otherwise mean that clients might not get support.
My fee for privately funded couples/relationship counselling is 55 for each 60-minute session.
My fees for commercially funded counselling, and Employee Assistance Plan type work, are negotiated on a case by case basis.
