Walsall Bereavement Support Service
WBSS is a local charity providing specialist bereavement support to bereaved Walsall residents of any age. We offer an adult bereavement support service 'Let's Talk' and a children/young people's bereavement service THE SWING. Our volunteers are trained to understand bereavement issues and our service is free to all our users, irrespective of their relationship to the deceased person, the cause of the death or the time that has elapsed since the death.

We offer free support to adults in the Walsall Borough, including those who have been bereaved by suicide. We offer free support to bereaved children, young people and their families who live in the Walsall borough. If you call us out of office hours, you can leave a message with your contact details on our answering facility and we will call you back when the office reopens.

We are located in Walsall town centre, near the bus station. We have quiet, peaceful rooms and trained counselling volunteers to help you come to terms with your feelings and what has happened.
Services
The initial reaction to loss is usually denial and this could be seen as natures way of putting up a mental barrier to stop us absorbing the reality of the loss.
Along with this then comes a sense of shock and as a result it is very common for a bereaved person to feel numb, confused and detached from others and everything around them.
In fact many bereaved people feel they are 'losing it' completely because nothing is as it was.
This is the question many bereaved people will ask and it is not uncommon to want to find something or someone to blame for the death.
Many of us may feel unsure, awkward or helpless when trying to find the right words to say to a bereaved person and invariably this is because we are frightened of appearing intrusive or saying the wrong thing to them.
Whilst your words will not change the situation for that person, they could provide much needed comfort and support.
Simply by saying 'I'm not sure what to say to you but I just want to say how sorry I am to hear.has died' not only are you showing you care but you are also acknowledging their loss and showing that you are more open to talk about how that person really feels.
As adults we naturally want to protect children and young people from the pain that is felt after death - for we know only too well how unbearable that pain can be at times.
We might believe that we are protecting children by not telling them about the events that led up to or followed the death of the person.
However, not letting children to go to the funeral or to be involved in the arrangements in any way, may cause much uncertainty and anxiety for them, which in turn may lead them to imagine all sorts about what happens to someone when they die.
If you are interested in learning more about social groups and activities going on in the Walsall area, please call us as we do have a list of such activities that you may find useful.
The charity is completely funded through voluntary donations and has to raise over 100,000 each year to provide its' services.
We need your support to ensure that we can continue to offer our support to those who need our help.
The Swing is the name of our bereavement service which provides support for children, young people and families.
We are a team of professionals who provide individual counselling, family support and group activities to children, young people and their families.
It's never easy to break the news of a death to a child and telling them someone they love has died, it can be one of the worst things a parent or carer has to do.
If a child isn't told what has happened they may be confused and frightened by the changes that are happening.
