Sue Trevelyan Counselling
The benefits of meeting in confidence with a professionally trained counsellor/psychotherapist have been proved to be substantial in a number of different situations. My practice draws on the systemic, psychodynamic and integrative thinking of many well known and respected practitioners, writers and thinkers. My practice is to have a telephone discussion prior to meeting even if we have emailed first, and to establish the time, directions to the venue and means of contact.

During a difficult time you may feel unable to find a way forward which is daunting and adds to feelings of stress. I believe that to meet with an experienced counsellor in a confidential setting, and have time to reflect and find a useful focus working towards wellbeing really can help. I am willing to listen carefully and make sure that you are in control of the process, so that each person can feel a sense of their own needs within a couple, family or work situation and take steps to find satisfying solutions.

When you have decided to come to a session you may feel anxious, but so often it is reassuring, and even surprising how quickly you can realise that your concerns have taken on a different perspective.

The benefits of meeting in confidence with a professionally trained counsellor/psychotherapist have been proved to be substantial in a number of different situations.
A first impulse to seek help, or a suggestion from a friend that this may be useful, may lead to relief at no longer being alone.
Moreover you are now more in control of a difficult situation, and you will find the thought and effort you have already put in, dispiriting as things may seem, will give positive results.
You may have come just to talk and think about a situation in life.
These last approximately one hour, and take place in a confidential setting.
I will set out the rule of confidentiality, which is that all the information and conversation in the sessions will not be disclosed to any other party unless danger to yourself, your partner or another party emerges.
This is a requirement by all counselling rules, including the ethical code of the BACP of which I am an accredited member, and which I am bound by.
I will also ask you your address(es) and confirm your contact details, and ask for some basic information as the need arises, but otherwise the session is there for you to use as you wish.
My practice draws on the systemic, psychodynamic and integrative thinking of many well known and respected practitioners, writers and thinkers.
I value the spiritual practice of many traditions.
The language of professionals in the field is diverse, and though I have studied several schools of thought, I use everyday language and welcome each individual's way of thinking, feeling and talking.
I try to be alert to people feeling stuck and awkward, to the hurt caused by negative thoughts and behaviour and aim to think together with you about the reasons for unwelcome behaviour and how to make changes which are not just superficial.
Concessions are available, dependent on resources.
My aim is that clients should not be reluctant to come to counselling due to financial concerns.
There is usually a full charge for missed sessions without due notice, unless we can reschedule within the week.
This is discussed in the first session.
Financial arrangements can be discussed at any time.
If the counselling seems an inappropriate choice we discuss the options fully as required.
The counselling will continue for as long as you feel you need.
