Stoke On Trent Counselling
Most of us experience times when we feel particularly anxious, depressed or confused. Professional counselling offers an opportunity to explore and resolve difficulties we may be experiencing in any aspects of our lives. Our difficulties may be caused by a specific situation, or, we may not understand why we are feeling anxious or unhappy or we may have worries that have been concerning us for some time.

I work with individuals and couples offering you the opportunity to explore and resolve difficulties which may be leading to anxiety, depression or loss of self-esteem. I am happy to work with any issue you choose to bring. I am a BACP accredited, qualified counsellor. This means my work is closely regulated, I am required to keep my training up to date, undergo regular supervision and to adhere to the BACP code of ethics.

I have worked as a counsellor since 2002 in various settings including the NHS, occupational health, North Staffs MIND, Savana and in private practice. Although I work as integrative counsellor, my work is largely person centred which involves careful listening, trying to understand exactly what you are thinking and feeling and aiming always to be honest and non-judgemental.
Services
I understand how important this is and I offer confidentiality, endeavouring always to hold your values and beliefs with the greatest of care and respect.
I will encourage you to talk openly and honestly within the counselling sessions, about your feelings, helping you to clarify them, form new perspectives, make changes and find solutions to enrich your life.
Although I work as integrative counsellor, my work is largely person centred which involves careful listening, trying to understand exactly what you are thinking and feeling and aiming always to be honest and non-judgemental.
I work from private counselling room at my home.
On your first visit, I will start by explaining a little more about what counselling involves, what you can expect from me and what I will expect from you.
Sometimes people come for counselling and find it a rather puzzling experience and not what they were expecting.
The aim of counselling is to help you to understand yourself and, if you so choose, make changes in your thoughts and behaviours so that your difficulties become more manageable.
When you go to a medical professional like a doctor or dentist and tell them your symptoms, they generally make a diagnosis and prescribe medication or recommend changes to your lifestyle.
I work with all relationship difficulties whether you are in a couple or on your own, regardless of sex, gender, sexual orientation, religion or ethnicity.
You can come for relationship counselling on your own or with your partner.
However you choose to do it, I will offer you space and time to explore your concerns with your relationship.
Relationship counselling does not necessarily result in you returning to the 'happily ever after' state.
You may come to the conclusion that it would be mutually beneficial to separate.
I am a qualified EMDR therapist.
EMDR is recognised by The World Health Organisation and recommended in NICE guidelines as the preferred treatment for Trauma and PTSD.
PTS is a collection of reactions - feelings, thoughts, behaviours - which are experienced following a sudden distressing event which is outside the range of normal everyday human experience.
The experience is overwhelming and exceeds our normal ability to cope.
It is the unexpectedness of the incident which seems to evoke the stress because it undermines our trust in normality - we can never quite believe in an ordered existence any more.
I have a limited spaces for supervisees.
However qualified or experienced we are as therapists, we are always learning.
It has been my privilege to share what I have learnt and also to learn from the therapists I have supervised.
My aim is to form a relationship of openness and honesty, underpinned with the core conditions of congruence, acceptance and empathy, to create a safe confidential place for you to share and celebrate your successes as well as a chance to reflect on and learn from what did not go so well with your clients.
