We can all - at times feel low or depressed, life tends to throw us curve balls which lead to disappointments and failures which can leave us feeling hurt and miserable and may cause us to despair.
Most people are depressed from time to time, roughly 1:10 will suffer from depression to a varying degree in their lifetime some may experience 'situational depression' which is a short-term depression that can occur in the aftermath of a sudden or traumatic change in your normal life.
Stress is different for each of us, what can be stressful for one person may not be for another.
Each of us respond differently to stress, it could be making you more or more anxious or it could just be making life interesting.
Some people enjoy the feeling of excitement whilst others become fearfull and panicky.
Identifying sources of stress and learning how to manage it more effectively involves setting priorities and working on simple problems first.
Reframing problems can also help you to look at situations in a different way - this can help to re evaluate issues.
Anger is a natural reaction - it is normal to feel angry at times and we feel anger as a part of the stress response known as 'The Fight or Flight response'.
The Fight of flight response is a stress response - it can also make you freeze in a situation.
When the response is activated adrenalin is released into the body which makes your heart beat faster and results in you feeling agitated.
Anger makes us feel strong and powerful.
Many people are uncomfortable with expressing their anger and at times can fear it and therefore may minimise it or suppress it.
Eating Disorders are driven by an intense fear of becoming fat.
To avoid becoming fat people want to get rid of calories and adopt harmful ways of doing this.
Eating Disorders develop as a coping mechanism and can be triggered by life events or changes, physical illness in particular glandular fever, upsetting events such as a death or a loss such as divorce or a relationship break up, being sent to boarding school at a young age, sexual abuse can all contribute to developing unhealthy coping mechanisms to survive that time.
