My name is Richard Wyatt and I am a qualified Counsellor and Supervisor, with more than ten years experience and I am based in the Northwest of England. I graduated from the University of Cumbria in 2008 with a Diploma in Counselling and I am an Accredited member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). Since qualifying I have worked in drug and alcohol treatment centres throughout the Northwest, and several secondary schools.
I have worked with all kinds of issues including bereavement, addiction, sexuality and gender, anxiety, stress, identity, relationships, communication and trauma. I have worked with a wide range of client groups including children, adults, individuals, groups and couples. Before practising as a therapist, I worked for many years as a Community Support worker.
I also volunteered as a School Governor, Youth Offending Team Panel Member, Counsellor and Child Mentor. I am interested in working with people and developing meaningful relationships that enable growth and development.

Services
Counselling is when a trained therapist and a client meet in a private and confidential setting to discuss and explore personal issues that the client presents, perhaps of emotional distress or relating to difficulties in their personal life.
The counsellor provides a safe and secure environment for the client and offers a non-judgemental, caring and listening space for the client to talk about their issues.
The relationship between the client and the counsellor is key and is based on building real trust, respect and acceptance so the client can feel more comfortable expressing their emotions, whilst always remaining independent and free to make their own decisions.

I trained at Strathclyde University and used Page and Wosket's Cyclical model.
This is a containing framework that enables focused and effective supervision in a collaborative environment, and is flexible enough to work with most modalities.
My person-centred training influences my approach to supervision which I would describe as facilitative and relational.
I normally work face-to-face from my office at The Storey Institute in Lancaster, but I also use Zoom to deliver supervision.
I understand that sometimes it isn't easy to fit "in-person" meetings into a busy work schedule or for reasons relating to the 2020 global pandemic.
